Mrs. Monk's Would-be Diary, should have been written by Mrs. Monk, since she is the "Writer" in the family.
However, since she is a writer only in the conceptual sense, I have undertaken to fill these pages on her behalf.
If not by her, these pages will certainly be about her, and other important matters of the day

Leslie Monk, the long suffering.

Mrs Monk’s

Would-Be Diary

 9 May 2004
Where is Mrs. Monk ?
Little niece, 8 year old Sian was confirmed a Catholic today, and we were invited to attend the ceremony in west London, and a Country Club Lunch to follow.
Sally agreed to let me go alone, since someone had to stay with Seamus.
On my return I gave her the highlights.
Sian's walk down the aisle: She wore a long pure white silky dress and looked a picture.
Later at the Country Club, I caught up with people not seen for some time. Some people are unrecognizable at first glance, due to the passing of the years. During the entire afternoon I found myself constantly explaining away Mrs. Monks absence. Initially I felt compelled to blurt it out before anyone made up their own reasons, But after about 30 separate enquiries and 30 elaborate convoluted explanations, I reduced the answer to "Cat is Sick", and then to, "She left me"
Many kids of all ages, entertained by a conjurer .
Surreal highlight of the day:: A very large and somewhat incompetent elderly tennis player in full white gear was playing on one of the outside courts.
Beyond him was an umpires chair and there 10 feet in the air was Sian in full length silky white dress overseeing an otherwise empty court. Mrs Monk will scold me for not getting this photograph of Sian as Umpire.
And the tribes of children marauding the country club Acres.
Very nice prawn dish for lunch.
My host, Carol, Sians Mother, explained how she visited the club 3 times a week to work out. I reminded her of last weeks government statement that we should all get more exercise by doing more housework.
Not sure if that went down well.
