Tinsel Town 8December2005

Mrs Monk has dubbed Tilbury Town as Tinsel Town, which is an ironic tag given the notoriety of the town, much maligned as something of a no-go area for the middle classes. Notwithstanding what might be said of this town, Tilbury has a unique character, remarkably free of the pseudo architecture so common in the county of Essex: No mock Georgian or pretend vernacular Essex barn and no fake Tudor, but plenty of awesome Gothic landmarks and acres of pebble dashed council housing, with much open space in which it is set. Tilbury is not in anyway a “beautiful” Town, nor is it picturesque but it is remarkably Photogenic.
