Mrs. Monk's Would-be Diary, should have been written by Mrs. Monk, since she is the "Writer" in the family. However, since she is a writer only in the conceptual sense, I have undertaken to fill these pages on her behalf. If not by her, these pages will certainly be about her, and other important matters of the day
27-May 04 Born to Teach Mrs Monk applied for another teaching job today at another school. Not allowed to go into why. She arrived home after a whole day of interviews at the new school and not knowing the outcome. She had competition with two other candidates and expected to lose-out to a particularly confident candidate. She was worried about the ethos of the school being too serious. She likes to have fun when she teaches. Each candidate had to teach a lesson and be observed and the man watching her had a very serious expression throughout the proceedings. She was worried that he would give her a bad report but then she told me that the class of year 8s, applauded her at the end of the lesson. This was unexpected. She took a bow. So the kids liked her lesson, but what about the man with the serious face. We took our usual ride to Waitrose to shop for our supper. Mrs Monk's cell phone rang in the car, and she took a deep breath before answering. The new head teacher was on the line personally, and Mrs Monk was offered the job. She told Mrs Monk that the "Serious Man" had reported to her that Mrs Monk was "Born To Teach" "Sounds like a movie title," I heard her say.
